An attractive down and farmland walk from Pitt Park and Ride on the Western edge of Winchester, across the fields to South Winchester Golf Course, and down to Silkstead where we follow in the footsteps of a fleeing Charles II, along the Monarch's Way leading us into Hursley.
Unlike the King, we will finish our walk at the appropriately named Kings Head pub in time for lunch, before catching the half hourly #66 bus back to Winchester.
Mud is unavoidable but it's slippy rather than deep mud. The route is also a bit uneven in places, so poles are advisable if you have them.
#66 Bus runs from Winchester bus and train station to Pitt Park and Ride every half hour. We will wait for the bus that stops outside the Park and Ride at 1025.
Return buses leave every half hour from Hursley, back to the Park and Ride and Winchester train and bus station.
The park and ride costs £3.50 all day, and if you don't have a bus pass, the fare is £3 for a single trip.
** Please let me have your menu choice if you are staying for lunch.
