** Walk rescheduled from Saturday 26th October**
A fast paced walk across 1066 Country that starts by passing around the historic town of Battle, and then across the rolling hills of the High Weald up until reaching the coast, after that the walk then goes along the cliff tops of Hastings Country Park (including passing the 'Dripping Well'), and then descending into Hastings Old Town.
At the end of the walk, we will be watching the Hastings Bonfire, an annual local festivity that commemorates both the Battle of Hastings and (a little prematurely) the Gunpowder Plot. For more info, please see: https://www.hbbs.info/events/2024-event-info
Bring a packed lunch as well as all supplies required for the whole walk, as there will be nowhere to purchase anything on the walk itself. Likewise, make sure to use the toilet on the train, as the toilets at the beginning of the walk may be closed, and the only other toilets are a few miles from the end. The lunch break itself will be at around 10.5 miles distance.
Most of the walk just consists of moderate undulations, until the final few miles leading up to and on the coastline, where there are some reasonably steep climbs - making the total ascent 700 metres. Plenty of cafes, pubs and restaurants to choose from in Hastings Old Town. It is then just under a mile to Hastings Railway Station (included in total distance). The walk should finish in daylight, but do please bring a head torch just in case.
Transport: Take the 09:15 from London Charing Cross (Waterloo East 09:18, London Bridge 09:24), arrive at Battle 10:33. Meet just outside the main entrance at Battle Railway Station. Buy a return to Hastings.
