NOTE earlier start time, 0930 not 1000.
The walk is a celebration of our incredible gritstone edges. We pass through Longshaw estate to Froggat & Curbar Edges then return along the slightly remoter White Edge. Weather permitting we should have some spectacular and extensive views of the upper Derwent valley & distant Kinder Scout plateau.
There is a cafe and toilets at the start/end, but the group does not stop at cafes or pubs for lunch, so please bring enough food and drinks with you to last the whole walk. We usually stop for a coffee break an hour or so into the walk, and have a packed lunch around 1230-1300, although weather and a suitable location will affect both timings.
Risk assessment: The walk leader has assessed this walk for the following risks, but during the walk others may become evident. The route crosses areas of high exposed moorland so it is essential walkers bring warm clothing, waterproofs and strong waterproof footwear. Bear inmind it is winter, so regardless of the forecast on the day, you should be prepared for rapidly changing & potentially worsening conditions. Underfoot condition can be challenging, with tree roots, bouldersand bogs to negotiate.
You should remain stay alert at all times, and take individual responsibility.
