A circular walk from the Kennet & Avon canal. Walking West initially and then south via Burridge Heath and Newtown, to arrive in the the picturesque village of Shalbourne with it's many thatched buildings. From Shalbourne to Ham using field paths and farm lanes before turning north to Upper Westcott and Standen Manor before returning to the canal-side car park.
The route follows a variety of field tracks, wooded paths and farm tracks. The conditions are generally very good (end of October) and there are short stretches of country road walking. There are some already soft areas, particularly in woodland and mud could be a feature if rainfall increases markedly.
There are 4 stiles, 2 wooden bridges and a ploughed field, footpath not re-instated.
Locations identified for a mid morning refreshment stop and for lunch, are not undercover and offer only modest protection from inclement weather.
There are no steep ascents of significance but there are some exposed areas of chalk which can be slippery in wet weather and there is one steady descent in the last mile.
Please bring sufficient food and drink for the day, and ensure personal equipment is adequate for late November walking.
The walk is limited to 16 walkers due to the car park limitations, please book using the link.
