FULLY BOOKED: The walk starts at St. Paul’s and ends on the south side of the river Thames opposite St. Paul’s. It begins with imagining St. Paul’s as a huge Gothic Cathedral and the churchyard as the centre of bookshops where Shakespeare would have found material for his plays. On the North side we pass two of his lodgings, an early playhouse, a tavern where he drank with friends and churches he attended. On the South side we pass the George Inn where he drank, his monument in Southwark Cathedral, the site of the original Globe Theatre and the modern Globe where the walk ends. From there it’s easy to cross Millennium Bridge back to St. Paul’s or catch a bus.
A leisurely walk stopping to look at places of interest so bring an extra layer to wear if it's cold. This walk is mostly on pavements.
We plan to stop for a mid-afternoon break/tea break at cafe.
