Overview

This walk is offered as an alternative to The Sill walk.

 

Park on road running through the village , proceed uphill on quiet road through the pretty village to Gattonside Mains , with lovely views over to the Eildons .  Follow the Southern Upland Way past Easter Housebyres to Gird Wood and Greenhill Plantation.

Downhill to minor road , looking over towards Earlston . Then uphill to Sorrowless Fields Mains , with views over to Black Hill . Down Goat Brae , with a photo stop at the bench with views over the river to Melrose , back to start .

Some road walking , grass paths ,  wet/ muddy tracks .

Boots and walking poles recommended .

2 short stops and drink stops as required .
