9:14 train to New Mills. Leaders will join train en route.
Get a Derbyshire Wayfarer ticket from Sheffield station if you can but check if you are not a senior. Return to New Mills might be cheaper.
Route: Peak Forest Canal to Bugsworth Basin. We then climb over an unnamed hill and track, passing below the TV transmitter, to Birch Vale then along the Sett Valley trail to New Mills.
This will mean that we have walked the whole length of the Peak Forest Canal in recent walks.
This is a varied walk and has Easy, Moderate and slightly Strenuous sections.
The first part is along the canal towpath so flat. Bugsworth Basin has a lot of historical interest so we will spend a short time there. It keeps the old name but the village has been changed to Buxworth (Donald Trump?!)
The next section has a steady 1.5 mile 10% climb that we won't be rushing. The path is boggy in some sections but we can skirt round through the adjacent fields. The downhill section is straightforward. Good views if the weather is right.
From Birch Vale we have an easy walk along the abandoned railway track to New Mills and its spectacular cliff lined Torrs valley.
