Walk Length: 7.5 miles
Walk grading: Moderate/Strenuous
Walk leader: Beth (07956242703)
Total Ascent: 1250ft / 380 metres
Please note that the exact start time might change closer to the time as we're still finalising the detailed timings for the weekend away.
This is the shorter option for Saturday's Walk, please see the other walk listed on this day for the alternative option, though that one might be limited.
Starting from the bunkhouse, we head straight out onto footpaths to head up Fan Frynych, the small mountain opposite Pen y Fan. There's a "gentler" ascent up the ridge and once the path levels out we'll find ourselves in Graig Cerrig Gleisiad nature reserve. We'll take a slight detour up to the trig point before continuing along the ridge, with a glorious view of the valleys and waterfalls either side.
After a few miles we'll descend off the ridge, picking up a roman road and turning back towards the bunkhouse via open countryside and woodland, including a small Ford crossing (wet feet possible!).
Its important that you bring suitable gear for mountain climbing - walking boots, lots of warm layers, hat, gloves, minimum 1.5l water and plenty of food. We also recommend walking poles as they are particularly good for your knees when going downhill!
Exact location to be provided to those not staying at the Bunkhouse.
