Overview

This scenic walk starting from Great Chesterford, heading towards Abington Park Farm, passing past Hildersham Wood, and then joining the Icknield Way back to Great Chesterford.

The Icknield Way is an ancient trackway that runs from Norfolk to Wiltshire. It is said to be one of the oldest roads the route to date back to Neolithic times before the Romans occupied the country. It was part of an ancient trading route that followed the chalk ridge across southern England, from the Norfolk coast to the Dorset coast.

    The walk starts from the centre of Great Chesterford at the corner Church Street and South Street by the telephone box. Park considerately on Church, South Street or School Street. Car sharing is available. Please contact walk leader Sushma on 07975846715. Trains from Cambridge to Great Chesterford are hourly. The 9:20am from Cambridge Railway Station arrives in Great Chesterford at 9:34am. You will need to walk approx 0.5 mile to the start point. Most of the route is on hard surface, but some sections will be muddy. Bring provisions for mid morning and lunch break. The Crown & Thistle does excellent Thai Food.
