Starting in historic Woolwich, the walk follows the Thames Path and Capital Ring to the Thames Barrier where it picks up section 5 of the Green Chain. It then goes through several attractive parks and across Woolwich Common to reach Severndroog Castle, a beautifully preserved Gothic Tower affording magnificent 360 degree views over London and beyond.
We have arranged for a private visit to the castle and will have an extended lunch break so people can explore the rooms inside and mount the 86 steps to the viewing platform. There is a small charge payable on the day (£5/concessions £4) and places are strictly limited so booking is essential. There is a delightful small café and benches nearby for picnics.
In the afternoon the walk continues to Oxleas Meadow where we pick up Section 4a which is considered one of the most attractive with wonderful views as we descend towards Plumstead where the walk ends.
Please note that there are some quite hilly sections and also a steep flight of steps but the paths are generally good.
