NOTE DATE CHANGE
We walk through the caravan park and up Greenlaw Dean to the spectacularly-sited Blackcastle Rings, enjoying the dramatic river valleys below us. We follow the Fangrist Burn to reach the enigmatic Kaims, an earthwork created by a glacial river at the end of the Ice Age. After lunch, we cross Greenlaw Moor and the Duns/Greenlaw road to enter the Marchmont estate. We walk on firm paths round Marchmont House and village and drop down to the former Earlston-Reston railway, and back to Greenlaw.
The total ascent is only around 100m, and the distance is 11 miles (17.7kms), over generally firm moorland, estate tracks and the old railway line. Expect to see hares, deer and possibly an adder. Normal walking gear is required.
Circular walk, grade B, moderate. Hiking boots and poles are recommended.
