From leaving Harlington village we follow paths along the top of the Sundon Hills which forms the far eastern area of The Chilterns AONB. We cross rounded downlands, cut into by wooded combes, viewing ahead the classic escarpment of Sharpenhoe Clappers, forming a prominent landmark, covered in beechwoods. Ascents are steady, rewarded with spectacular, distant views across Central Bedfordshire. Picnic lunch will be near Sharpenhoe Clappers NT carpark, before exploring the finger-shaped promontory. There will be a rather long and steep descent with steps so maybe strenuous for a short while, so bring walking poles. Hopefully, we will have time to divert slightly off route to a pub for drinks/toilets at Streatley. The return is across fields looking towards Harlington on the low ridge ahead, later passing St Mary's Church. There are nearby pubs in the village for refreshment if required before heading to the station.
Bring picnic lunch, walking poles, best to wear walking boots as some paths maybe muddy after rain, a few are uneven with some grassy overgrowth, plus safer on descent.
Toilet at Harlington Station and Pub.
