A linear walk through Hertfordshire countryside, commons, parks, a country estate and a new woodland forest. The walk starts in Harpenden initially along commons and a golf course, continuing through a new forest created by the Woodland Trust, named Heartwood. We will stop for lunch in Sandridge (with it's 900 year old Norman church), there are pubs in Sandridge but please bring a packed lunch. There is a village store where you can buy supplies
After lunch we continue through the pretty Childwickbury country estate. Finally, approaching St Albans through countryside with great views, entering the city near the cathedral and walking through the old town. There is lots to see and do in St Albans, so you may want to stay a while before getting the train back home.
Much of the walk is along well made footpaths but sections of the walk can be muddy after rain
No booking required.
Drop-out points: There is an option to leave the walk at Sandridge (approx 5.5 miles), there are two bus stops in the village with buses to Harpenden and St Albans.
