Train & bus-based walk

Leader: Mark F, joining bus at Stockport

Meet Point: Near the ticket barriers, or on the platform, at Piccadilly station. Alternatively, meet the group on the train or bus, or at the Walk Start. 

Transport to Walk Start: 09:19 train from Manchester Piccadilly (final destination New Mills Central). At 9New Mills, walk up the road to the bus station and catch the 61 bus to Hayfield at 10:03. Alternatively, catch the 09:03 train from Manchester Piccadilly (final destination Bristol Temple Meads). At Stockport, walk to the bus station and catch the 358 bus to Hayfield at 09:35.

Suggested Ticket: Off Peak Day Return to Stockport £5.70, plus £2 bus single for each journey. Alternatively, Off Peak Day Return to New Mills Central £9.40, plus £2 for each bus journey.

Walk Start: Hayfield Bus Station Station at 10:30.

Waypoints: Cliffbank Farm, Hey Wood, Matley Moor, Glossop Road, The Intakes, Middle Moor, Kinder Reservoir, Upper Moor, Hayfield Campsite.

Return Services: From Hayfield: (early services dependent on walk finishing by this time)

60 bus at 16:00, changing to train at New Mills Central at 16:34.

358 bus at 16:41, changing to train at New Mills Central at 17:02, or at Stockport at 17:51

61 bus at 17:15, changing to train at New Mills Newtown at 17:38. 

61 bus at 17:23, changing to train at Glossop at 17:52.

358 bus at 17:40, changing to train at New Mills Central at 18:01, or at Stockport at 18:51

61 bus at 18:01, changing to train at New Mills Central at 18:34.

61 bus at 18:03, changing to train at Glossop at 18:52.

This walk includes a few steep climbs and other smaller undulations. It takes in country lanes, bridleways and Kinder Reservoir. This walk is not suitable for beginners and a good degree of fitness is required.

Some areas may be muddy. The walk includes exposed moorland sections and narrow paths.

No dogs please, other than registered assistance dogs.
