A lovely walk commencing from Haylie Brae car park ascending to viewpoints with views to the Islands of Cumbrae , little Cumbrae Arran and Ailsa Craig in the distance Bute, as well as the mainland towns Ardrossan , West Kilbride and Seamill, Fairlie and Largs.
Walk is mixed terrain of good footpaths incorporating some gentle hill climbs, a short but steep ascent, rocky paths, slippy in places, and open fields and hilly overgrown pathways.
WALK
From Haylie Brae Car Park we ascend up to the first Haylie Brae Viewpoint and onwards to the Largs Viewpoint where prominent features of the towns of Largs and Fairlie are visible: Hunterston, church spires, parks and golf courses, marinas and green roofs of Fairlie castle, currently under construction. Haylie reservoir and fishery are also visible.
Continue up to Jocks Castle and on a clear day spectacular views of the mainlands and islands then onwards to Mount Stewart with remnants of ruins scattered here and there. The dramatic elevation has views of Gogo Glen, Feuside Hill, Knockside Hill, Irish Law, Box Law and Salty Law.
We also cross Greeto bridge with its beautiful waterfalls and pools. The stony path towards the Glen is slippy under foot until Gogo water where after crossing the river by a footbridge, with caution we descend into the wooded pathways and back up to the viewpoint and Haylie Brae carpark.
The walk will be led by Joyce. Please contact her on 07436116745 to let her know whether you will meet to share cars at Morrison's or at the start of the walk.
Walking boots required, poles useful, gaiters depending on the weather.
