This is a relatively short circular pre-Christmas walk starting on the green at Hertford Heath, a village located alongside the Roman road between London and York. We take in a variety of land uses, from managed woodland to heathland to farmland.
We travel the entire length of Balls Wood and cross parts of the Heath, both of which support a special mix of wildlife. We pass through the extensive grounds of Haileybury, a college originally established on the site in 1806.
As dusk approaches, we soak up the atmosphere as we climb gently up through Golding's Wood to our starting point. At the end of the walk there will be the opportunity for refreshments at The Goat, one of the oldest surviving pubs in Hertfordshire.
This is a moderate pace walk. We want everyone to enjoy our walks, if you have any concerns about the pace please speak to the walk leader.
No need to pre-book or contact the leader in advance. If already a Ramblers member, please just bring your Ramblers card (or membership details on the app) to help speed up the Ramblers register before we start the walk.
