Overview

This walk is for up to 25 people, including the leader.

Part 2 of an epic long-distance trail around Hertfordshire - join us for any of these!

Please note this is a linear walk from Whitwell to Wheathampstead - at the end point you can get a bus back to the start. Drivers may wish to park at the end point.

The route is through farmland, villages, woods and old parkland, and passes two historic churches at Ayot St Lawrence.

We first head out of Whitwell over undulating countryside and through Hoo Park towards the pretty village of Codicote. After circling through Codicote we head for Ayot St Lawrence and will stop by the ruins of Old St Lawrence Church for an early packed lunch stop, with an optional drink (and comfort break) at the Brocket Arms (N.B the pub opens at midday, so we may need to wait depending on the pace of the group).

The final part of our walk starts by passing the 18th century neoclassical New St Lawrence Church, after which we will continue through Lamer Park into Wheathampstead.

The walk will finish at the East Lane Car Park (for those who left cars in Wheathampstead) or the nearby bus stop at St Helen's Church to get the 14.56 Centrebus 304 back to Whitwell (for those who left cars at Whitwell Recreation Ground). There may be time for a drink in The Bull at Wheathampstead prior to catching the bus, depending on the pace of the walk.

Dogs are welcome on a lead.

For information about walking with the group, including our dog policy, please visit the Stag Walkers website.

Booking your place: If you would like to join, you must book in advance using the Stag Walkers Meetup group - see Notes for how to book & what to bring. If you are unable to attend, please cancel your booking so that someone else can take your place.

Please do not turn up for a walk without booking, as places are limited.

Unless you opt in to further communications, we will only use contact information you provide to get in touch about the walk.

Please car-share or use public transport if possible. To offer a lift or ask for one from a fellow walker, please use the Meetup event page.
