A six-mile afternoon walk from Watton-at-Stone.
The majority of this walk takes place on the Woodhall Park Estate to the east of the village.
After meeting at the Community Hall we head towards the Parish Church at the edge of Watton-at-Stone. Once leaving the village we see our first view of Woodhall Park, a Grade I listed country house which has been owned by the Abel Smith family for over 200 years. We walk down the hill to the main gates of the estate, taking in the views of the Broadwater restoration on the River Beane. We head through the grazing pastures up towards a high wall ladder stile (about six feet high) which needs to be climbed.
We then take the footpath towards the Ware Lodge gates before turning towards Southend Farm, passing through the gate and heading down the hill towards Stapleford. Turning right at the school, we take the path along the River Beane back through the estate before returning to our start point via Watton Green.
At the end of the walk we can join other walkers for a cream tea at the Hall.
This walk is family-friendly but not suitable for dogs due to the high ladder stile.
