An all-day walk through countryside and villages south-west of Watton-at-Stone.
First we visit Watton-at-Stone Parish Church and its impressive trees before walking up Perrywood Lane and the Long Walk to reach Bramfield and Brickground Woods.
Walking past the rather large house built by Anthony Hamilton, father of Lewis, we will enjoy open views over rolling Hertfordshire fields before walking up through Tewin Wood to reach Bull’s Green.
Turning off Coltsfoot Lane we walk down and up to Burnham Green and its lovely village green and trig pillar (a possible site for an early lunch).
We continue south towards Cooks Wood, again with good views before turning north towards Harmer Green and Datchworth Green. Datchworth Green is rightly renowned and is well used both for leisure and sports activities.
Gover’s Green will bring us to an enviable set of entrance gates which we pass through to reach Back Lane. Leaving Back Lane to return to Watton-at-Stone we again have spectacular views, weather permitting and a lonesome oak tree before walking past Watkin’s Hall Farm and our return to the start point for a well deserved cream tea.
Please bring a packed lunch.
This walk is not suitable for dogs.
