Overview

A delightful walk through rolling Hertfordshire countryside and woodland visiting two pretty villages en route, with stunning views.

From Digswell we set out through farmland to Tewin Bury, an events venue and working farm where we might see some alpacas. Then, turning away from the River Mimram we head uphill through Lamb Dell Wood and on to the village of Tewin.

At the neighbouring village of Burnham Green we’ll have our packed lunches on the green itself (some seating is available) and may enjoy some “trig-bagging”: an Ordnance Survey triangulation pillar can be found towards the north-eastern end of the green, marking a height of 125 metres above sea level.

We then make our way back to Digswell via Harmergreen Wood, an ancient woodland below which runs the East Coast Main Line. Ventilation shafts for the railway tunnels can be found in the woods and the sound of air blowing through the vents may be heard when trains pass underneath.

On leaving the woods we emerge back in Digswell, where we can enjoy refreshments at the Village Hall from 4pm.

Dogs are welcome on a lead.

Suitable for older children with appropriate footwear.
