This is a 7-mile circular walk which starts and finishes outside Hildersham Village Hall, High Street, Hildersham, CB21 6BS. The Hall is next to the Ford across the Granta River and there is plenty of room for parking outside the Hall.
The 13 bus to Haverhill starts in Cambridge bus station and has a stop on the A1307, a 7-minute-walk to the Village Hall.
From Hildersham we will walk up to the Roman Road, follow that for a while, and then gradually make our way up to the watertower on the summit of Rivey Hill. This is the high point of the walk (literally) since it is one of the high points in Cambridgeshire (at 112 metres/368 feet) with views over Linton and the surrounding countryside. The walk to the summit of Rivey Hill is quite gradual and not too strenuous.
Next we'll make our way down to Linton where The Linton Kitchen café has a lunch menu and wonderful cakes. It will be busy on a Saturday so we probably won't all get a seat inside. An alternative venue is the nearby Dog & Duck pub.
Finally, we'll follow the Granta Valley back to Hildersham.
When I checked out the walk on 18 February, it was quite muddy, and I’d recommend wearing walking boots (not walking shoes) and carrying a stick, if you have one.
