Overview

Discover some hidden corners of Hertfordshire where grand houses are set amongst the rolling hills and woodlands, in an area that is less frequently explored. Our route takes us past Knebworth House, St Paul's Warden Bury, Stagenhoe and through Kings Walden Deer Park. We will also see a most unusual railway tucked away at the end of a village. We return to Stevenage passing Princess Helena College, another great former country house, with an afternoon pub stop for drinks only along the way.  At the end of the there is an opportunity for a pub visit or a visit to Southend Farm for music and trains in the garden.

Please bring a packed lunch.

Travel: Take the 09:41 from St Pancras International (09:32 London Blackfriars, 09:36 Farringdon), arr. 10:08 Stevenage.

(NB the train does not call at London Bridge prior to the call at London Blackfriars because it follows a diversionary route from East Croydon).

Meet the walk leader at Stevenage Station, by the ticket office.
