We are the Mendip Ramblers. We open the way for everyone in our local community to enjoy the pleasures of walking.
West Mendip Walkers 9 mile moderate walk. Starting from Horningsham, we walk along the road on mainly wide paths to the church. Turning down a quiet lane, we join a track that takes us into the edge of the main Longleat House estate. We climb though woodland and arrive at Heavens Gate and catch our breath whilst admiring the view over Longleat House and Safari Park and the millennium sculpture. We continue though varied landscapes and a fine unused road with fine ornamental trees and wide grassy banks until we get to a roundabout and after a short walk on the road, we descend along forest tracks to Shearwater lake. From here we walk along the lake before starting the ascent up to Heavens Gate and stop for lunch. We descend towards Horningsham, via fields that lead to a grand gatehouse and a drive back to Horningsham and The Bath Arms Inn."
