This is a fairly flat walk taking us first through the quaint small market town of Hungerford before heading south to Standen Manor. Our route then takes us on a few minor lanes, farm tracks and through a small copse before entering the Stype Wood estate and the Long Walk. From the Stype estate we will join the Kennet & Avon canal near Little Bedwyn and head east back to Hungerford. After rain parts of the Kennet & Avon canal footpath can be muddy so please wear suitable footwear.
After the walk we have an option for a social drink at a tea shop such as The Tutti Pole or pub in Hungerford. Bring a packed lunch and drink, we will stop briefly either in the Stype estate or by the canal.
Park either in the Railway station ACPOA car park (£2.10 for all day, cash or phone) or the West Berkshire Council public car park on the other side of Station Road (£3 for all day, card, cash, contactless or phone) or considerately in local streets. The walk will start from the Station car park next to the railway line at 10:30am or within reason shortly after the arrival of the 09:43 train from Reading which is due to arrive at 10:23.
