Today’s circular walk takes us to the Berks-Wilts border to Ramsbury and the 15th-century Littlecote House, the latter of which was built by King Henry VIII on the grounds of a Roman villa ruins. From Hungerford station, we’ll head to the Kennel & Avon Canal, which we walk along to get to Freeman’s Marsh to walk through it. After this, we’ll walk through Brickkiln Copse and a road to reach Littlecote House, where we’ll stop off for lunch, before passing the former Roman villa to head to the quaint village of Ramsbury. After this, we’ll pass a farm, Selworth Border and Cake Wood to head back to the Kennet & Avon Canal, which we follow back into Hungerford via St Lawrence Church. For those who want to have a pint at the end of the walk, we’ll be stopping off at the John O’Gaunt Inn, which is only a 5-minute walk from the station.
