This is a 9 mile beach walk. It is essentially in and out on the beach starting at the top of the stairs in the furtherest away Irvine beach car park. We will walk approximately 4.5 miles out and the same back. We can wander off the beach at Barassie, sit on one of the many benches and look out over the sea while enjoying a tea break. We can ramble while in Barassie on either grass or beach or tarmac as far as Morrisons where there are toilets and a cafe.
The beach between Irvine and Barassie is more or less flat so this is not a challenging walk, other than the distance and perhaps the weather. The beach does however change from sand at the Irvine end, to shells and then pebbles at the Barassie end.
The distance may mean that some ramblers would prefer to have a pole or poles. On at least two occasions we have to cross over river outlets / overflows which can be deep so waterproof boots are recommended.
There will be car share available from East Ayrshire Council Offices, London Road, Kilmarnock. We will meet at 09:00 and leave at 09:15.
