We start the fifth section of the Jorvic Way at Wigginton and finish off in Poppleton. Please check the meeting point and travel plans below carefully. The walk starts from Wigginton at 10.00am. If you are travelling by car you will need to meet at Nether Poppleton by 09.30am to car share to the start.
⚠️ Please be aware that this route does involve crossing and walking alongside some busy roads (A19 and the A1237).
🥾 Many parts of the route are likely to be muddy as a result of wet weather - walking boots are recommended.
🚌 If you are planning to come by bus, the number 1 (First York) leaves York Theatre Royal at 09:27 and arrives into Wigginton at 09:55. The bus stop is very close to the meeting point. There are regular buses (every 30 minutes) back to York from Nether Poppleton on the number 10 (First York).
🅿️ If you are coming by car, meet at Nether Poppleton by 9.30am. There is a small car park opposite Riverside Gardens, or on-street parking on Main Street. We will then take some cars to the start of the walk at Wigginton, where there is on-street parking near Wigginton Primary School and the surrounding streets. Please be prepared to offer others a lift before or after the walk and be considerate of residents when parking.
🐶 Dogs are welcome but should be kept on a lead. Be aware there are multiple stiles to cross as well as fields where livestock may be grazing. There is a fair amount of road walking on this route so please take this into consideration. If you are bringing your dog by car then you must arrange beforehand with someone else who is happy to give you and your dog a lift to the start of the walk.
🥪 You will need to bring a packed lunch with you. We will aim to have lunch between 12.00 and 12.30pm.
