We start Section 6 of the Jorvic Way in Poppleton, walking alongside the River Ouse. Shortly before lunch, we will catch a view of Beningbrough Hall across the river. Lunch will be at the confluence of the Rivers Nidd and Ouse, with Nun Monkton on the opposite bank.
After lunch, we will walk along the River Nidd, passing through farmland and finishing the walk in the village of Tockwith.
🚌 If you are coming by bus, the number 10 (First York) leaves York Piccadilly at 09:31 and arrives into Poppleton at 09:57. The bus stop is a few minutes walk from the meeting point, where we will start the walk at 10:30. After the walk, we will be able to give you a lift back to Poppleton or another convenient bus stop.
🅿️ If you are coming by car, meet at Tockwith by 10.00am, where there is on-street parking on Kirk Lane. We will then take some cars to the start of the walk at Poppleton, where there is a small car park opposite Riverside Gardens. Please be prepared to offer others a lift before or after the walk, and be considerate of residents when parking.
🐶 Dogs are welcome but should be kept on a lead. Be aware there are multiple stiles to cross as well as fields where livestock may be grazing. If you are bringing your dog then you must arrange beforehand with someone else who is happy to give you and your dog a lift to Poppleton.
🥾 After wet weather or high river levels some parts of the walk will be muddy - walking boots recommended.
⚠️ Please be aware that this route does involve crossing and walking a short way alongside the A59.
🥪 You will need to bring a packed lunch with you.
🍺 After the walk there is the option to visit the Spotted Ox pub in Tockwith for a drink.
