The South West Coast Path often makes it into lists of the best walks on the planet and this walk, from Gara Rock to East Prawle and back, is certainly one of the best sections. Part of the walk will involve doing a short section of the coast path in both directions. The views are just stunning both ways.
We start from the Gara Rock car park and head towards Salcombe before changing direction and descending to the lovely Gara Rock beach (Seacombe Sands).
We then climb towards Deckler’s cliff and follow the coast path to a position above Moor Sands. At this point we branch off to the left and use a permissive path over National Trust land to eventually arrive at East Prawle village, which is a little gem. We will stop for lunch here. There is a well-known pub, a café and toilets.
After lunch, we will make our way back to the coast path above Maceley Cove and continue past Gammon Head as we make our return towards Gara Rock. There are refreshments available from a van outside the Gara Rock hotel.
This is undoubtedly one of the best walks in the area with spectacular views throughout.
