This walk begins at Kilmacolm village square, parking within the car park beside the library and surgery. The route follows an old right of way from Kilmacolm to Langbank through open fields with a short stretch of road walking. Heading up Barrs Brae we leave the village and move into open countryside. The path, although unclear at times, is occasionally marked by old cast iron black and white signposts dating from the 19th century. The boardwalk crosses the Dargarvel Burn, designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest. Shortly after this a vista suddenly opens up across the Clyde and the views over to Helensburgh, the Luss Hills and Ben Lomond should be magnificent. A very short detour to the highest point affords an even wider perspective of the view in front of us. We then head downhill through a muddy field then onto the road for a short stretch before we join an old cart track leading down towards Langbank and the Clyde. After a break we retrace our steps heading back up and over to Kilmacolm.
Walking is mainly on grassy fields with faint paths and a stretch of boardwalk. The route includes some muddy parts, occasional steepish sections and a couple of stiles. One of the fields may include some cattle. There are a couple of roads to cross and a short stretch of road walking. Gaiters and walking poles are recommended. Graded C+ / Moderate walk.
