Overview

This walk is for up to 25 people, including the leader.

Join us for an evening walk that offers views of Hitchin Lavender when the plants should be in full bloom.

Beginning from Letchworth Station, we will pass the historic Spirella Building, formerly used as a corset factory, and cross Norton Common, passing a bench dedicated to a local naturalist who died in 2020.

We will follow Pix Brook, and join Letchworth Greenway as it follows the roads round to Wilbury Hills. We will also pass by Icknield Way Cemetery, whose most famous resident is the Garden City's founder Ebenezer Howard.

We will walk through the countryside to Cadwell Farm where we can pause to enjoy the sight and scent of the lavender fields. We will then join the Icknield Way Path as we head uphill towards Letchworth. Looking back, you will see good views of the countryside that inspired the artist Spencer Gore.

As we follow the Icknield Way Path, we will pass the site of an Iron Age Hill Fort, and Letchworth's post-war prefab buildings, before leaving the Icknield Way footpath, going under the railway and back to the start point, where there will be an optional drink stop in Letchworth town centre.

Dogs are welcome on a lead.

Booking your place: If you would like to join, you must book in advance using the Stag Walkers Meetup group - see Notes for how to book & what to bring. If you are unable to attend, please cancel your booking so that someone else can take your place.
