Overview

Moretonhampstead is one of Dartmoor’s ‘Gateway Towns’, granted market status in 1207 by King John for an annual rent of one sparrowhawk. We shall leave the town via Lime Street, pausing to learn about the ‘calculating boy’. From there we will head to the Iron Age hill fort at Cranbrook, before descending to the River Teign. Staying on the south bank until the boundary of the deer park and our return leg, taking in Forder, Parford, Linscott and Sandhill Cross.
The walk uses tracks and field paths, with some lane walking - mainly on the last leg.
