The Little Skirrid from Abergavenny Castle Meadows

Starting from Castle Meadows car park this walk follows the River Usk downstream until turning up through a small housing estate to reach the Monmouth Road. After a few minutes backtracking we reach Abergavenny Station bridge and cross the A465 to get beyond the noise of trains and traffic, entering the peaceful fields leading up to the woodland surrounding the Little Skirrid. Passing up through these woods at a slow pace it is still easy to miss the top as it is mostly covered in young conifer trees again, although there are glimpses of the views in all directions along the route. The path we stroll along will soon lead downwards again to the other side of the hill before skirting back around through more fields to reach the A465 again, where we reverse the morning’s riverside stretch back to our start point.
