A beautiful walk on the quieter side of the Long Mynd, with outstanding scenery and views throughout. We start from, Bridges near the pub car park, and follow a relatively gentle, undulating, ascent route to the Long Mynd plateau. Beginning on the Shropshire Way, we walk up the beautiful Darnford Golden Valley path to where it meets the historic track known as The Portway. This follows an even older route as when on the Portway, we pass prehistoric tumulus burial mounds near the Shooting Box. We then descend on the Cross Britain Way to the River Onny valley. If the weather and views are kind we finish by ascending to the Adstone Hill viewpoint, to return along the top of the valley side and back down to Bridges. If the weather is inclement, we will return along the lane. The Bridges Inn pub will be open for restorative coffees, pints etc. after.
Varied walk with through woods, across fileds and moors and along quiet lanes, This walk can be exposed and windy on the tops and much colder than in the valley so pack an extra layer. Please bring a drink, snack and packed lunch. Parking is very limited at Bridges so please car share from Meole Brace Park and Ride, and fill the cars, so as not to inconvenience pub and youth hostel customers. Please book with leader as number of cars will be limited.
