We are the Wolverhampton Ramblers. We open the way for everyone in our local community to enjoy the pleasures of walking.
It was often claimed that you couldn’t get into or out of Tipton without crossing a canal and also that Tipton had “more miles of canal than Venice”. Although the main canals remain many of the branches have now been filled in. Some have been built over but the routes of others can still be followed across “Public open spaces”. This walk traces some of these routes and parts of the main canals still in use. There is some road walking to join up the canal sections. For those who are interested, the best real ale pub in Tipton is a short distance from the finishing point.
There will be a short drinks stop and a slightly longer lunch stop - so remember to bring a drink and a packed lunch.
Do make sure you're fit enough and have the right footwear and clothing for weather conditions and the walk you want to do. You can contact the group or leader if in doubt. Non-members of the Ramblers Association are welcome to join us on a couple of walks before deciding whether to join the group.
Furnace Parade, Tipton: On-street parking by grassed area on the opposite side from the houses. Accessible by public transport. 5 minutes walk from Tipton Station, trains every half hour from Wolverhampton, Birmingham and Walsall.
