The Lovelace Bridges of Horsley- the Earl of Lovelace was a keen forester and he built 15 stone arch bridges to facilitate the movement of timber from his estate. Some have collapsed but we aim to see some of them remaining in a circular walk. The route is clockwise via Old London Lane, Oldlands Wood, Effingham Forest, and Shleeplease where we shall have a picnic lunch. There should be lovely views.
It will be a latish lunch, so bring a snack for mid-morning.
We'll call in at a pub in West Horsley for drinks and refreshments, and back to Effingham Junction.
The full walk is 9 miles with 200m of ascent. The return walk can be shortened at Horsley Station.
Start point Effingham Junction Station at 10.20am. Note changed train times due to engineering works. The 09.24 from Waterloo calls at Clapham Junction (09:31) arriving Surbiton at 09:41. Catch 09:54 from Surbiton arriving at 10.19. This is a circular walk .
Estimated finish time: 4pm
The trail is stony and will be muddy and slippery in places. Poles would be useful. Please wear suitable footwear !
The toilets at Effingham Junction are currently closed- there are no toilets before the pub stop.
Bring a picnic.
No dogs, please.
