Marsh Farm Country Park is surrounded on three sides by the River Crouch, Clements Green Creek and Fenn Creek, which makes it a great place for coastal walks and river views. It's recognised as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) because of its importance for overwintering dark bellied brent geese. It also provides an overwintering site for many species of waders and ducks in the autumn and winter. The Park is also home to a healthy population of water voles, an endangered species which can be seen in the burrow dykes and ditches alongside the river (if you're lucky!).
We will stop for a brief lunch/snack break apx halfway.
The paths can often be wet and muddy - so wear appropriate footwear.
Meeting Point : We will meet outside the train station entrance at South Woodham Ferrers.
Parking : There is free street parking available locally, or you can park at the station car park. You need to pay on arrival using either PayByPhone (Location ID 804033), or purchase a Pay & Display ticket from the station ticket machine.
There will be the option to unwind at a pub after the walk.
Parkrun option : I will also be doing the South Woodham Ferrers parkrun beforehand if anyone fancies burning a few extra calories (The event takes place at 9:00am, Marsh Farm Country Park, Marsh Farm Road, South Woodham Ferrers, Essex, CM3 5WP)
