This 10.5 mile circular walk starts from the car park at May Beck and heads along forest paths and tracks towards Lilla Cross, where we can see Fylingdales and some great moorland views. We then loop back on ourselves, passing a trig point and follow the bridleway across open moorland where hopefully you will see the heather starting to bloom. As we come off the moors, we'll cross farmland, eventually getting back into forestry again at Great Wood, where we'll come across The Hermitage and then Falling Foss, where we can treat ourselves to cake 🍰 and ice-cream 🍦 at the tearoom. Finally, we'll follow the path alongside the beck back to the cars.
This walk is on varying terrain, forest paths and tracks, open moorland which is very uneven underfoot. The farmland had cattle and a bull on the recce, please bare this in mind if you were thinking of bringing your dog. The ground is wet and muddy in places and the section across the open moorland involves having to skirt round significant areas of wet ground but it was reasonably easy on the recce. Please wear appropriate footwear for this walk.
🅿️ The car park at May Beck is free but fairly small, please consider car sharing where possible.
🚻 The only toilets available will be near the end of the walk, when we stop at the tearoom at Falling Foss.
🥪 You will need to bring a packed lunch
