A beautiful village in the delightful Edan District of Cumbria. Situated halfway between Penrith and Alston our walks today may take you to see Long Meg and her Daughters, or up onto the fells to the north or south. The Old Village Bakery (open until 4.00pm) and the Shepherds Inn (12 to 10pm) offer refreshments at the end of the day.
Three walks will be on offer, with full details circulated on the coach. They will range from easy to strenuous depending on the walk selected.
A Walk Leader - Dave Eccles - 11 miles, with 1648ft of ascent with most of it before lunch. Heading north out of Melmerby towards Gamblesby before the graduial climb up to Hartside Cross. We then turn west to Salah Bridge, and on to Busk, where we turn south back to Melmerby.
B Walk Leader - Chris Grayson - 9 miles, with not much climb, but quite a lot of downhill. We leave the coach at Hartside Top Cafe (site of) and head for Raven Beck Bridge and Haresceugh. After we cross fields to the village of Unthank, and take the track to Hazel Rigg. Through Gambleby to Melmerby.
C Walk Leader - Derek Cook - Around 7 miles with 610ft of ascent. We leave the coach just sfter the village of Langwathby, and head north to Hunsonby. Then Northwest to Little Sslkeld. From here we take the track to see Meg and her Daughter for lunch. After which we turn east and head for the village of Gamblesby before heading south to Malmerby along a wall track.
