This final stage of the Middlesex Greenway trail finishes in an obscure corner of the London Borough of Enfield, but the journey there has lots of interest. Along the way small sections of the London Loop, New River and River Lee Navigation will be followed. Starting at Southgate station through Grovelands Park to reach Enfield town, making a short stop in the Town park for drinks & toilets. Then via Gentleman's Row and Hilly Fields to Forty Hall with it's Jacobean mansion and lake. Please bring picnic to eat here in the garden. Cafe (for drinks only) and toilets are available. Now on London Loop beside Turkey brook to Enfield Lock on the River Lee Navigation. We follow river north to the Middlesex county boundary stone at Rammey Marsh. Possible stop for refreshments at cafe by lock. I then plan to walk through part of the Lee Valley Regional park to finish at Cheshunt station, we are now in Hertfordshire.
Invevitably there are some sections of hard pavement walking in places and steps to cross bridges over roads and rail, but also opportunities to escape into pleasant quieter green areas along the route. Some paths could be muddy after rain, a mostly flat walk.
No toilets at Southgate station.
Return from Cheshunt station is free for Freedom Pass holders on Overground trains only.
There is a companion walk at the other end of the Middlesex Greenway, postponed from earlier in the year, which is now being offered on Wed 11th Sept.
