From Mirfield along canal and riverside paths to Ravensthorpe.  Along pavements to Scout Hill, where we join the Spen Valley Greenway, which is a disused railway.  Uphill to Liversedge; past Heckmondwike, past artwork including ‘Rotate’ by Trudi Entwistle - 40 giant steel hoops set in a circle, and Sally Matthew’s flock of Swaledale Sheep, constructed from recycled industrial scrap.

We leave the Greenway and head down to the A638.  After crossing the road we head up to the Spen Ringway, another disused railway.  We follow this to Heckmondwike Cutting.

From Heckmondwike we rejoin the Spen Valley Greenway and retrace our steps to Ravensthorpe.  We follow the route of the Calder Valley Greenway along streets and through Holroyd Park.  At Shepley Bridge, we rejoin the canal and retrace our steps to Mirfield.

Please bring a working torch.  It will be dusk or dark when we finish the walk.
