Wrapping up the Paris Olympics 2024, it's poignant to retrace where it all began. Much Wenlock is the birthplace of Dr William Penny Brookes, the inspiration for the modern Olympic Movement (1896) and founder of the Wenlock Olympian Society (1850 1st ever Wenlock Olympian games held in the town).
Live life on the edge as we explore Wenlock Edge (part of the Wenlock Circuit), a rare and special landscape formed 425 million years ago as a coral reef in a shallow sea. Taking in varied countryside, woodland and possibility of being greeted by Vietnamese pot-bellied pigs before returning to Much Wenlock.
Option at the end to see some relics of our Olympian heritage all around the town – Olympic torch, birthplace and final resting place of Dr William Penny Brookes and the importance of keeping fit! If there's still time then a visit to a local pub.
Don’t forget packed lunch/fluids.
