Today's dog friendly circular walk is an adaptation of an evening walk I led back in July 2024, of which the link can be found here.
Starting at Newbury station, we'll start off by walking through City Park and past some allotments before heading through the Wash Common fields, which was the site of the Battle of Newbury during the English Civil War. From here, we'll then head towards the Kennet & Avon Canal, which we'll briefly walk along before heading through the water meadows. Around here, we'll take a diversion to pass the historic Elmore Abbey in Speen before heading back to the water meadows, which we'll continue along into Northcroft. From here, we'll then head back into Newbury along the Kennet & Avon Canal to our finishing point at the Lock, Stock and Barrel for those who want a pint at the end of the walk.
TRAINS:
The recommend train to get is the 10:33 GWR service that arrives in Newbury at 10:54.
DRIVING:
Newbury station has a large car park on the north side of the station, where parking fees apply. As this walk starts on the south side of the station, please leave plenty.
