A walk to and around north Durham and the Brasside ponds. 

The walk takes in Beacon hill, Wharton Park, Flass Vale, Aykley Woods Nature Reserve, Low Newton Junction Nature Reserve and Brasside ponds.

A walk of 8.5 miles with 750 ft of assent., mostly on good paths but with some muddy sections, boots are essential.  Some of the muddy sections were slippy on the recce and those that use sticks will find them useful. 

There are public toilets after about half a mile. 

No stiles or farm animals, just a few busy roads that require care when crossing.  

Refreshments after across the A691 at The Cartologist, formerly the Garden House.,

Park and meet at the Old DLI car park. From the north coming into Durham on the A691 turn left after the new St Lenard's School tents signpost Long Stay parking then go left under the barriers and follow the road round to the car park. From the south on the A691 out of Durham turn right after the railway arches sign post long stay car park then go left under the barriers and follow the road round to the car park.
