Overview

This walk follows tracks from Picket Plain, with far reaching views across the heathland. We continue across Backley Plain to the underpass beneath the A31. Safely on the other side of this busy road we cross Bartley Plain to enter Red Shoot Wood, having lunch within the 2500 year old earthwork, Castle Piece. We follow the well surfaced cycle track to Linford, then turn southwest to find another underpass to return to the car park. For those wanting a cuppa, Burley with its many cafes is not far away.

Most of the walk is on good surfaced tracks, but there will be a few muddy spots- be prepared!
