The Peak District - a wide circuit around Ilam, B walk (BOOKING ESSENTIAL)

B WALK DESCRIPTION: This is a circular walk starting and finishing on the A52 road north-west of Ashbourne. We head north-east across varied peakland terrain descending to the River Manifold which we briefly follow before veering off towards Bunster Hill. We follow a very fine route across the shoulder of Bunster Hill from which we enjoy truly stunning views to the west across to Ilam.  We continue north then west to Castern Hall, a farm situated in a beautiful position above the Manifold.  Then south to Rushley Bridge and from here it’s a steady ascent on a good track towards Musden Low. The final part of the walk follows typical rolling peakland scenery before finishing back at Swinscoe. Picnic lunch. Walk distance: 8.5 miles, Total ascent: approximately 1500 feet (453 metres).  Nothing too steep.
