Something a bit different. Enjoy a nine mile linear walk from Pershore to Evesham, following one of the 'Rail Trails'. Although quite long, it is flat and easy walking, much of it following Shakespeare's Way through Wyre Piddle, Fladbury and Charlton, then on to Evesham, crossing the Avon by the Hampton ferry (£1 charge), and back to our start point.
Our plan is to meet at the Merstow Green car park (free on Sundays) at 09:15 and then to walk to Evesham railway station where we will purchase our tickets (£3.15) and then catch the 09:38 train from Evesham to Pershore, from where we will walk back to Evesham. We will have a couple of stops, including a break for a picnic lunch, plus, we also plan to stop off at The Gardener's Arms in Cropthorne for a bit of liquid refreshment.
(see weblink below for a map and details of the route)
Easy and flat walking on a mixture of broad tracks, roads and good paths. A few stiles. Livestock not very likely. Some fairly steep steps down to the Hampton Ferry.
Total cost for this walk will be £4:15 - £3.15 for the rail ticket; £1 for the ferry; car park free of charge.
Note for attendees: To comply with updated Ramblers requirements, all attendees will be asked to enter their name and contact number on a Walk Sign-in Sheet before the start of the walk. You also will be asked to either confirm that you have your emergency contact details with you or, if you don’t', to enter your emergency name and contact number onto the Sign-in Sheet. This sheet is for emergency purposes only and will not be retained as a record after the walk.
(Note: as a matter of good practice, we would encourage all walkers to complete and carry an ICE - ‘In Case of Emergency Card’).
