A winter walk around the higher ground above Pitlochry and return via Loch Faskally and the dam. We will visit Black Spout waterfall, pass two distilleries and a brewery, pass Casteal Dubh, burnt down during the plague, cross a golf course and of course look at a fish ladder. Mostly on paths with some short mostly quiet road sections. An earlyish finish should allow time to visit the Pitlochry shops.
Local grade C+. RADO
Although not really boggy, there are several slippery bits and a couple of steep drops away from the path so poles highly recommended. There are some fairly hilly bits and sharp descents. Several sets of steps on the route.
Bearing in mind the short winter afternoons, strong walkers may wish to leave the group at the golf course, climb Craigower and make their own way back to Pitlochry. This would add an extra 2.9 miles and an extra 212m of ascent to the route and take approximately an hour and twenty minutes without a stop.
Please book with walk leader at least two days before the walk
