A walk of around six miles, beginning with the new pedestrian / cycle bridge over the Clyde which links Govan’s Water Row (very close to the Pearce Institute) with Partick’s Pointhouse Quay and Riverside Museum. The bridge is designed as “a connection that will re-establish the historic link between the two areas” – so we will do just that.
Once over the bridge, from the Riverside museum we will walk to Kelvinhall and onto the North bank of the River Kelvin below the University of Glasgow. We will follow the river through Kelvingrove Park and along the walkway past the Botanics to the Arboretum. At that point we will cross the river and return via the Arboretum, Botanics, Byres Road, the new University of Glasgow campus on the Western Infirmary site, and finally back to Kelvinhall and the bridge to Govan.
The walk is all on pavements or tarmac paths and largely flat. Those not wanting to complete the full circuit have opportunities to catch the subway (Kelvinhall; Kelvinbridge; Hillhead) or a bus – and West End locals could peel off and walk home.
NOTE: The AGM will finish around 12.00 but the room is booked until 13.30, so BRING A PACKED LUNCH to eat at the Pearce Institute before setting off.
Although all participants will - presumably - be attending the AGM, it would be useful if those interested in the walk could contact the Leader in advance, but not more than two weeks before the walk (i.e. 2nd November) to get an idea of numbers.
