Overview

A scenic walk through the Chiltern Hills in Buckinghamshire starting from the Whiteleaf Cross car park at 10am just outside Princes Risborough, with pleasant woodland and lovely views over the Vale of Aylesbury (depending on weather) and a war memorial (see photo, better weather has happened!). We will pass through the small town of Wendover on the way up to Wendover Woods which includes the highest point in the Chilterns. After lunch we could stop at a pub for a drink as we head back through Wendover. We then pass by the Prime Minister's country residence, Chequers, before returning to the start point. Please bring a packed lunch with you, to eat up at Wendover Woods.

Start point: Whiteleaf Cross car park (free of charge at time of writing), Peters Lane, Pr. Risborough HP27 0RP. What3Words:  ///spreading.warm.bucks  Please aim to arrive at start point about 10-15 mins before the walk starts at 10:00am.

Public transport: Princes Risborough railway station, although direct from Oxford and Oxford Parkway, is 2 miles from the start point. The 0845 from Oxford arrives at P. Risborough 0925, then you would need to get a taxi from there to the start point. The taxi is probably best booked in advance.

Ascent: There will be plenty of hills, particularly up to Wendover Woods - total height gained over the whole walk will be 2300ft/700m. We will have to pass the ongoing HS2 rail works twice, just outside Wendover. Moderate to challenging walk.

Clothing: So that the walk is a fun, enjoyable adventure please ensure you are wearing appropriate clothing for walking and good footwear, preferably walking boots. No trainers/sandals. Jeans are also not suitable for walking - if it's a wet day they will get soaked. Please bring plenty of water and on the go snacks with you as well. If it is raining or forecast to rain, you'll need waterproofs (coat and ideally trousers). If it is sunny you need to bring sun cream with you, and a hat might be useful (plus even more water).

Dogs: Friendly dogs are welcome to join us.

Non-Ramblers members are welcome and are able to attend 3 walks before joining the organization.
